Guntur: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, where he pressed for the state to be granted special category status, according to party sources as reported by the media. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) also tweeted about the meeting between the two leaders. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who secured a landslide victory in the 2019 state elections campaigning on the promise of special category status, has previously engaged in multiple discussions with Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on this matter.

This meeting comes on the heels of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu's recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J.P. Nadda. Speculation has arisen regarding a potential alliance between the two parties in Andhra Pradesh for the upcoming elections.

In light of the Congress gaining traction in Andhra Pradesh and the likelihood of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) aligning with the BJP, sources suggest that Reddy hastened to the national capital to make a final attempt to address the issue.

"The Andhra Pradesh CM met with the prime minister in the Parliament complex to discuss various pending projects and demands, including the pursuit of special category status for Andhra Pradesh," added the sources. Both general and state assembly elections are expected to take place simultaneously in Andhra Pradesh before May.
