Andhra Pradesh files plea in SC challenging SEC order postponing civic

The Indian state of Andhra Pradesh government on Monday challenged the State Election Commission's decision to postpone the local body elections in the state for six weeks. A private petition has also been filed in this case. Local body elections were to be held in the state on 21 and 23 March.

The Supreme Court can consider the petition of the state government on this matter on Tuesday. The court listed the private petition for March 19, as another such petition is under consideration.

Ramesh Kumar met Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan at Raj Bhavan and apprised him of the decision to postpone elections due to coronavirus. Chief Commissioner Neelam S. Has written a letter to the Commission demanding withdrawal of the decision to postpone the elections. He has said that at present, the condition of coronavirus in the state is controlled.
