Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh government has announced to give 50 per cent reservation to scheduled castes, tribes, backward classes and women in temples. At the same time, BJP has declared this decision of Jaganmohan Reddy government of the state against the Hindu sentiment. A BJP leader from Andhra Pradesh says that the state government should ensure that Dalits who have converted to Christianity are not nominated to any position in Hindu temples.
Lanka Dinakar, who quit TDP and joined BJP, said that his party is not against this 50 per cent reservation. But the party is worried about the inclusion of Christians in the managing trust of Hindu temples. Lanka Dinakar said that 'All those who come to power in Andhra Pradesh have their eyes on Hindu temples and their land.' He said, is it not true that the Hindu Dalits who have converted to Christianity, remain Dalits for a lifetime.
He further said that is "it not true that politicians who convert the religion of all parties are publicly represented in the name of Dalits. Is it not unfair to Dalits? Dalits have been given reservation at designated positions in Hindu temples in Andhra Pradesh. We demand that only Hindu Dalits be nominated on these posts".
