Port Blair: Four new Covid-19 cases have been registered in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of cases in the Union Territory to 7,505, a health department official said on Saturday. The official said two cases were detected during contact tracing and two cases were found at the airport.

He further said that all passengers coming by flight will have to undergo a mandatory RT-PCR test before allowing them to enter the islands. The official said the death toll of coronavirus in the archipelago stood at 129 as there were no deaths due to infection in the last 24 hours. There are now 16 active cases in the Union Territory and all the patients are in the South Andaman district while the other two districts north and central Andaman and Nicobar, are now corona free. COVID-19 recovered another patient, taking the total number of recoverers to 7,360.

The official said the Andaman and Nicobar administration has so far tested 4,23,910 samples for corona infection and the cumulative test positivity rate is 1.77 percent. He said a total of 251,493 people have been vaccinated so far, of which 1,73,186 have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 78,307 people have received both doses of the vaccine.
