New Delhi:- A new report by Bloomberg's Marc Garman says Apple is developing artificial intelligence tools to compete with the likes of OpenAI and Google. The tech giant has developed a chatbot that some engineers internally call "Apple GPT."

Apple has yet to formulate a strategy to release the technology to consumers, but it is reportedly aiming to make some major AI-related announcements next year.

According to the report, Apple has developed a proprietary framework codenamed "Ajax" to create large-scale language models, AI-based systems that power services such as Open AI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard.

According to Bloomberg, Ajax runs on Google Cloud and was built using Google JAX, the search giant's machine learning framework. Apple uses Ajax to build a large language model that serves as the basis for his ChatGPT-style tools under the hood. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The chatbot's internal deployment was paused due to security concerns regarding generative AI, but has since been made available to more Apple employees. More and more employees have access to chatbots, but access requires special permissions. Bloomberg reports that chatbot output cannot be used to develop features for customers.

Apple employees use chatbots to assist with product prototyping. Chatbots can summarize text and answer questions based on the data they are trained on. The company's chatbots are similar to Bard, ChatGPT, and Bing AI in that they have no additional features that distinguish them from those currently on the market.

The report comes at a time when Apple is looking for generative AI talent. The company has several job postings on its career page for generative AI professionals. We are looking for an engineer with a "solid understanding of large-scale language models and generative AI".

Companies like Google, Microsoft, and Meta quickly began releasing generative AI products to the public, but Apple has remained fairly silent on the AI front. After years of introducing AI capabilities into their products and apps, tech giants are now looking to meet consumer demand for generative AI tools to help with tasks like writing essays and paintings.

According to the report, Apple is focused on addressing potential privacy concerns related to artificial intelligence. Apple CEO Tim Cook said the tech giant plans to add AI to more products, but it will do so "on a considered basis."
