Mumbai: The Mumbai Police crossed the border of misbehaving with Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, sneaked into his house and assaulted him and arrested him. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar condemned the attack on the press as soon as he came to know about this incident and termed the whole incident as Emergency.
Javadekar wrote in his tweet, "We condemn the attack on press freedom in #Maharashtra. This is not the way to treat the Press. This reminds us of the emergency days when the press was treated like this " On the other hand, in the coverage of Republic TV, Arnab is seen talking to his reporter from the police van. Arnab said that not only the police beat and abused him but also beat his son.
In the video, Arnab is saying that the Mumbai Police did not give him a chance to meet his family. He was not even allowed to talk to his mother-in-law. Arnab said, "They hit me. Harassed me. They did not even let me meet my family. Did not allow me to meet my mother-in-law. They beat my son. They physically tortured me in my house." According to Republic TV, the police team that reached Arnab's house had no summons, documents or any court papers.
