New Delhi: Today Congress President Rahul Gandhi launched an attack on Finance Minister Arun Jaitley through a tweet over the Rs 12,600-crore Punjab National Bank fraud.

In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi alleged that Arun Jaitley is keeping his mouth shut on PNB scam to save his lawyer daughter.

According to a media report, Jaitley's daughter's firm had a brief association with Geetanjali Gems which was owned by Mehul Choksi.

In his tweet, he said: “It’s now revealed that our FM’s silence on the PNB SCAM was to protect his lawyer daughter, who was paid a large retainer by the accused just a month before the SCAM became public. When other law firms of the accused have been raided by the CBI, why not hers?”

According to the report, Arun Jaitley’s son-in-law Jayesh Bakhshi, in his reply to one of the media house, confirmed that the retainer received in December 2017 and was returned in January 2018.

When being asked about the cancellation, Bakhshi replied, “When the news item started appearing (and this is after 31st January 2018) about the company’s involvement in the banking scam, we immediately unilaterally cancelled the Legal Mandate and refunded the entire retainer amount. The same was refunded through the banking channels.”
