Reports suggest that the NSCN (K-YA) militants allegedly have abducted road construction workers from Pumao in the Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.

In the meantime, security personnel have initiated a search for insurgents. In the bordering territories of Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar, a coordinated operation was launched. According to authorities, they were working on the Pumao Langkhow Road and were camping at a campground near where the kidnapping occurred.

The individuals were sent to Nyasa, Nagaland. The militants have freed one of the three abductors, Bangphua Wangpan, a native of Langkhao village in Longding district, while the other two remain in their custody.  Hiren Konch (an excavator operator) and Ramasish Mahato, both from Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, are the two. The militants grabbed the phones and car keys at the encampment, enabling news of the kidnapping to reach the public late Tuesday evening.

The remaining employees had to walk several kilometres to report the event to the police. The NSCN(K-YA) is active in the Longing area, where they have been extorting money from businessmen for several months. Many militant cadres were recently detained in Eastern Arunachal Pradesh as part of a joint operation.

"This isn't the first time in Arunachal Pradesh that road contractors have been kidnapped by insurgents. Many kidnappings occurred in Arunachal Pradesh in the past, but militants were later freed after receiving extortion money, according to a police officer.
