Jammu: Engineer Rashid, MP from Baramulla seat of Jammu and Kashmir, has been granted interim bail till October 2, 2024 by the Patiala House Court in the terror funding case. He has been granted this bail to campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Although he had sought bail for three months, the court has currently granted bail only till October 2. The decision on his regular bail plea is still pending.

Rashid's statement after coming out of jail : After coming out of jail, Engineer Rashid, who is also known as Sheikh Abdul Rashid, has said that he will not disappoint his people. Continuing his talk, he said, "I promise to fight PM Modi's 'Naya Kashmir' narrative because it has failed in Jammu and Kashmir. What happened on 5 August 2019 has been rejected by the people. I will continue to work for the welfare of my people." Also, targeting the Modi government, he said, "Don't be afraid and don't scare others."

Targeting Omar Abdullah: Rashid said that his fight is bigger than Omar Abdullah's and said, "His fight is for the chair, while my fight is for the rights of the people. The biggest issue for me is the Kashmir issue. I am a victim of the BJP and will keep fighting against Modi's ideology till my last breath."

Mehbooba Mufti's sarcasm: People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti also targeted Rashid and said that a person in jail is contesting elections while poor people are not even allowed to meet their relatives. She said, "Some people are being allowed to contest elections, form parties, vehicles and even security, while others whose relatives are in jail are not even given a chance to meet them."

Omar Abdullah also took a dig at Rashid's bail and called him an ally of the BJP. He said, "Engineer Rashid has got bail only to get votes in the elections, not to serve the public." Abdullah also said that Rashid will be sent back to jail after the elections and North Kashmir will again be without representation.

Rashid is in jail since 2019: Engineer Rashid is in jail since 2019. He was arrested by the NIA in the 2017 terror funding case. He is accused of helping terrorist groups and separatists in funding. Along with this, Rashid won the MP election from Baramulla by defeating Omar Abdullah in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 while being in jail.
