Hyderabad: The ever-increasing population in the country is being debated these days and a section is demanding a law to control it. Meanwhile, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad Asaduddin Owaisi have made a big statement on the population.
The AIMIM chief says he will not support any law that sets a limit on having two children. Speaking to the media, Owaisi said, "We should not repeat china's mistake. I will not support any law that talks about making a two-child policy. It will not benefit the country.'' Earlier, Owaisi had said that Muslims should not be held responsible for the increase in population.
Owaisi had claimed that the Muslim community has been at the forefront of using contraceptives. However, what Owaisi has claimed, the NFHS-5 (National Family Health Survey) report presents the exact opposite figures. According to the report, the national average of 15-49 years of use of contraceptives by women in the age group of 15-49 years in the country is 66.7 per cent. But among the Muslims in the country, this average is 60.3 per cent, which is the lowest in the community. Not only this, but this figure is also very low compared to other minority communities in the country.
