New Delhi: The trophy of the world's most popular cricket league, the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been lifted by several Indian captains, but before IPL 2022, there was no head coach who has made his team the IPL champions. However, the record has now been set in the name of former Team India fast bowler Ashish Nehra, who was the head coach of Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2022 and under his coaching, Gujarat defeated Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets to clinch the title.

14 seasons were played before this and in all the seasons, there were foreign head coaches in the champion teams, in which Stephen Fleming is named four times, while three times Mahela Jayawardene has won the IPL title to the team under his coaching. Trevor Bayliss has won the trophy twice as head coach and once each Tom Moody, Ricky Ponting, John Wright, Darren Lehmann and Shane Warne have made their respective teams IPL champions.

Ashish Nehra is the only Indian in this list, who has given his team the IPL trophy. When Hardik Pandya told Ashish Nehra that he is the first Indian coach to win this trophy, Ashish Nehra's reaction to it was that he was unaware that there was such a thing. He also said that I have not yet touched the trophy and this has come to light after the trophy celebration of IPL 2022.
