New Delhi: Former Haryana Congress chairman and close aide of Rahul Gandhi, Ashok Tanwar, will join the Trinamool Congress in Delhi today, as per reports. He will join the TMC in the presence of Mamata Banerjee, the party's supremo, who landed here last night.

Tanwar was the president of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee from 2014 to 2019, and was the convenor of Apna Bharat Morcha (a political organisation he founded to provide an option for discussing issues). Tanwar was also the president of the Indian Youth Congress and the National Student Union of India. He was the first and youngest president of the Indian Youth Congress.  In 2009, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Sirsa. In 2014, he was defeated by INLD's Charanjeet Singh Rori.

In the meantime, Congresswoman Kirti Azad is expected to join Mamata Banerjee's party today. Azad, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning cricket team, was expelled from the BJP in December 2015 after openly criticising then-Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over alleged irregularities and corruption in the Delhi and District Cricket Association. In 2018, he was elected to Congress. Azad was elected to the Lok Sabha three times from the Bihar town of Darbhanga. He ran as a BJP candidate in the 2014 general elections. When Banerjee visits Delhi, she always meets Congress President Sonia Gandhi. According to report, the TMC has indicated that the West Bengal Chief Minister may skip it this time.
