The Indian football team will not play any matches this year after the 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifying Competition was canceled due to the Corona crisis.
The Asian Football Confederation has canceled all the men's qualifier competitions of the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup to be held in October and November. The country played the last international match against Oman in Muscat in November last year, which was a joint qualifying match. The country lost this match 0–1. India has been out of the race for a place in the upcoming round of the World Cup qualifiers, but is still in the race to qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup. On October 8, the team had to fight at home in Qatar, while in November it was to compete against Afghanistan at home and against Bangladesh in its home country.
If the country stays in third place in the group, then it will enter direct in the third round of the 2023 Asian Cup qualifier. FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation, a global sports body, have issued a joint statement. In which he said, "Given the current state of the COVID-19 epidemic in many countries, the FIFA and Asian Football Confederation have jointly decided that the upcoming qualifying competitions of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup China 2023 to be played in 2021. These competitions were to be held during the October-November 2020 international competition window. The decision has been taken due to Corona.
