The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) unanimously extended Jay Shah’s presidency by one year during its Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday.

Shah’s re-election was proposed by Shammi Silva, president of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), for the second time, and was unanimously supported by all ACC members.

Taking over the ACC reins in January 2021 from Nazmul Hassan of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Shah became the youngest administrator to serve consecutive terms as ACC President.
"We are dedicated to fostering cricket's growth, particularly in regions where it's still emerging. The ACC remains committed to nurturing cricket across Asia," Shah stated.

During Shah's tenure, the ACC successfully hosted the Asia Cup in T20 format in 2022 and in ODI format in 2023, according to the council.

Silva expressed satisfaction with the unanimous support for Shah's extension during the ACC Board meeting. "I'm pleased that the ACC Board unanimously backed the proposal. Jay has a track record of enhancing finances through commercial and broadcast deals, channeling these funds to grassroots levels, and uplifting associate members," Silva remarked.

"Under Mr. Shah's leadership, the ACC has reached new heights, particularly in developing grassroots cricket. The Asia Cup has become the premier continental tournament in world cricket, thanks to his efforts. Mr. Shah deserves recognition for elevating this tournament. I'm confident that cricket in Asia will continue to thrive, and we will collaborate closely with the ACC to further this goal," said Nazmul Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board and an Executive Board Member of the ACC.

Mirwais Ashraf, Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board and Executive Board Member of the ACC, noted, "He emphasized providing more exposure to cricketers from the region, which we've seen across different formats. The Asia Cup is a testament to the true competitiveness of Asian teams. Shah's financial management, from broadcast deals to commercial and sponsorship agreements, has made his previous terms impactful. I pledge full support and anticipate another successful term for ACC under his leadership."
