Guwahati: Veteran BJP leader and Assam Cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that if his party wins the 2021 assembly elections, the state government will launch a "tough fight" against 'Love Jihad'. The assembly elections are due in March-April next year.
Addressing a meeting of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Dibrugarh, he said, " We will have to start a new and strict fight against Love Jihad on Assam's soil. If the BJP comes to power again, we will take a decision that if any boy hides his religious identity and comments anything negative on Assamese daughters and women, he will face ruthless and rigorous punishment."
Sarma said that if the BJP government comes in future, strict action will be taken against love jihad and the government can also enact a law against it. He said the BJP government will not tolerate bad behaviour with the daughters of the country in any case. He said the BJP government in the Centre and the state is committed to the safety of women and daughters.
