Guwahati: A major accident occurred after a boat capsized in the Brahmaputra river in Dhubri, Assam. Several people including senior officials of the district are reported to have drowned in this accident. Giving information about the accident, an official said that at least seven people, including an officer, have gone missing when a boat carrying a team to investigate erosion capsized near an under-construction bridge on Thursday.

He has told that 'There is a small channel near the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge. The team was crossing the channel on a wooden boat when it collided with something and the boat overturned uncontrollably. Around 25 people were in the boat, many of whom were from the Dhubri circle office.' Anbamuthan said some were able to swim while others were rescued. He said teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Border Security Force (BSF) have been pressed into service for search and rescue operations.

Anbamuthan has told that Circle Officer Sanju Das is also among the 7 missing people. Anbamuthan said, 'Efforts are on to save them. We are hopeful that he will be found safe and good soon.'
