Guwahati: 30 students are reported to have been injured when a bridge collapsed in Assam. The incident took place in Karimganj district of Assam where about 30 students were injured when the hanging bridge collapsed. All these children were reportedly returning home from school. According to the report, the incident took place on Monday in Cheragi area of Ratabari assembly constituency in Karimganj district.

The students were returning home from school when the hanging bridge broke down. Built on the Singla river in Assam, this hanging bridge is the only bridge connecting the Cheragi area with the village. For the past several years, students and locals have been using this bridge to reach other places. The hanging bridge suddenly collapsed on Monday when students of Cheragi Vidyapeeth High School tried to cross the Singla river with the help of this bridge. However, people in the neighbourhood who rushed to the spot pulled the students out of the river in time. About 30 students were injured in the incident.

The injured students have been admitted to a nearby hospital. Villagers said the hanging bridge was constructed three years ago. A week ago, three boys were killed when they drowned in the Brahmaputra river near Pandu Ghat in Guwahati, the capital of Assam. In fact, even during that time, the children were returning home after studying tuitions, while the boys jumped to swim in the river, and they lost their lives when they drowned.
