Assam CM requests this Olympics medalist to join police force as DSP

Recently Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma felicitated Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain through a felicitation programme in Guwahati and requested the star pugilist to join Assam Police as a DSP. Himanta Biswa Sarma besides said that the Assam govt will give Lovlina a monthly financial aid of Rs 1 lakh till Paris Olympics. Sarma went on to add that a Rs 25 crore sporting complex will be built in Saupathar in the Golaghat district of Assam in Lovlina Borgohain's name.

Borgohain arrived in Guwahati on Thursday with warm hospitality as Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma received her at the airport. Borgohain, who secured the welterweight (69kg) bronze, was then hailed by the state government in the afternoon. Sarma was followed by Sports Minister Bimal Borah. The 23-year-old boxer then boarded a bus, customized with huge cut-outs of her, and travelled to a city hotel where she will rest before being felicitated by the Assam government at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra here later in the day. Borgohain is also slated to meet Governor Jagadish Mukhi in the evening.

She will, however, not visit her village Baromukhiya in Golaghat during this visit, but return to Delhi to attend the Independence Day event where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet Olympic medallists. The 23-year-old from the tiny Baro Mukhia village of Assam's Golaghat district displayed the trilling power in the Olympics and became only the third Indian boxer to finish on the Olympic podium, joining two of the biggest icons in Indian boxing - six-time world champion M C Mary Kom and the very decorated Vijender Singh.
