Guwahati: Assam Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mondal made a controversial statement on Thursday, asserting that the BJP, not the Rohingya, is the real threat to India. "BJP is a threat for India, not Rohingya. Rohingya may be a threat but the BJP is definitely a threat to Indians for their wrong policies, management, communal hatred speeches, and their adoption of communal policies. If someone says that India is in danger, it is only because of the BJP," Mondal told the media.

Mondal also questioned the effectiveness of the Border Security Force (BSF) in preventing Rohingya infiltration. He asked, "Is the national boundary open for all? What is BSF doing at the border? Why lakhs of rupees are being spent on them? If the force is not sufficient, increase the force and battalion to protect our boundary." He further criticized the central government for denying Chinese aggression and failing to protect India's borders, suggesting that the government should resign if it cannot fulfill this duty.

Regarding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's statement about providing shelter to Bangladeshi refugees, Mondal clarified that the government would offer shelter but not citizenship. He explained, "When there is turmoil in Bangladesh during the anti-reservation movement, at that moment somebody may come. If someone seeks shelter, the government will provide shelter, not give citizenship. In 1971 also, lakhs of foreigners came to India and were sheltered here. After the independence of Bangladesh, they returned to their land. What to do and what not to do is decided by the Government of India."

Mondal also commented on the Assam Chief Minister's remarks on Rohingya infiltration, accusing the government of attempting to polarize Hindus against Muslims. "In Assam, the government can fall at any time. So they are trying to unite the Hindus. Muslims are coming from Myanmar or other countries; it is nothing but a political statement to polarize Hindus against Muslims. They have lost the confidence of the public. They lost the Ayodhya parliamentary constituency in the last election. In Assam also, they are losing their faith, and many senior party leaders are leaving the BJP," he said.
