In view of the impending elections for four municipal boards in Sonitpur district, namely Tezpur, Dhekiajuli, Rangapara, and Jamugurihat, the Deputy Commissioner has issued an order declaring dry days throughout the district from 4 p.m. on March 4, 2022 to 4 p.m. on March 6, 2022.
Moreover, the day of vote counting, which is set for March 9, 2022, has been proclaimed a Dry Day in the district until the process of counting is completed, including any re-polls. During this time, all government-licensed IMFL retail OFF/ON stores, hotel ON, clubs, country spirit retail shops, and wholesale warehouses, including IMFL wholesale warehouses, would be closed in the district.
During the period, it is illegal to sell, possess, distribute, or consume any type of spirituous, fermented, or intoxicants, or other substances of a similar sort by any individual or group of people in the region. Any violation of the order would be dealt with in accordance with the Assam Excise Act and Rules.
