Guwahati: Now trains can run from New Delhi to Kamakhya on electric traction without changing locomotives on the route. Because Assam got its first electric train at Kamakhya station on Thursday morning after the completion of railway electrification in the state. Earlier, in trains coming from Katihar and Malda, electric locomotives were separated at New Cooch Behar station, and diesel locomotives were attached. Because the railway electrification work was not completed in Assam.

Now electric trains can now reach Kamakhya station directly because after completion of rail electrification and commissioning of section, now electric trains will come directly to Kamakhya station. Railway electrification up to Kamakhya station is authorized by CRS/NF. Circle who inspected it from 7 to 9 October. After completing the inspection and authorization process, the circle opened the section from New Cooch Behar to Kamakhya for operation.

The joint efforts of the Central Organization for Railway Electrification and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited had undertaken the electrification work completing a total of 780 Route KM / 1701 Track KM. Electric traction will be beneficial in several factors such as faster trains with higher speed capability that save time and energy, increased energy efficiency with higher power-to-weight ratio, cost-effectiveness and more.
