Assam: Foundation stone of flyover gets laid by CM Sonowal

Developments are at rise in the state of Assam. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a new flyover joining Maligaon with Kamakhya Gate and Pandu in the city. The proposed four-lane flyover will begin from Maligaon and finish by crossing the Kamakhya Temple gate on the Assam Trunk (AT) Road with an elongated arm to the road heading to Pandu Ghat. The Assam PWD (Roads) will construct this flyover at an estimated cost of Rs 383.72 crore under the State-Owned Priority Development (General) Scheme.

The nearly 3 km-long flyovers is targeted to be finished within two years from the date of construction. Terming the rapid infrastructure development in Guwahati as part of the vision of the state government to make the city the gateway to entire southeast Asia, the chief minister said infrastructure development has been taken up as a top preference by the state government to make Assam one of the best states in the country.

He also referred to the expansion of Guwahati city in all four sides under the State Capital Region Plan and the formation of Guwahati by the Centre in the first round of the Smart City Project as indicators of the vision of both Central and State governments to make Guwahati and Assam new engine of growth for the country, as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Referring to Prime Minister Modi’s ‘transformation through transportation’ motto, Sonowal said 15,000 km of roads have been built in the state under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) during the present state government.
