Guwahati: A three-day winter session of the Assembly has started from Monday. In the Legislative Assembly, a bill repealing the aid to Madrasas was introduced today. Cabinet Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has given this information. Sarma said, 'We have introduced a bill under which all madrasas will be converted into general educational institutions and no madrasa will be established by the government in future.'

He said that 'we are happy to introduce this bill to bring a truly secular curriculum in the education system. The bill has been opposed by the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front. But we are determined that this bill needs to be passed and it will be passed.'

Before introducing the bill, he had said, 'I will present the bill today to repeal the provincial nation of the madrasa. Once the bill is passed, the practice of running a madrasa by the Government of Assam will end. This practice was introduced by the Muslim League government in pre-independence Assam.' With this decision of the government, all government madrasas and Arabic colleges in the state will get government assistance.
