Guwahati: Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, announced that the state government has acquired 116,000 units of sexed sorted semen with the aim of increasing the female calf population and boosting dairy production. Inspired by successful models implemented in Gujarat and other states, the Assam government has set an ambitious target to significantly raise milk production.

"Inspired by the successful models implemented in states like Gujarat, we have set an ambitious target to exponentially increase our milk production. By expanding our animal-based economy, Assam will emerge as one of the top five states in India. To accomplish this goal, we have dedicated numerous welfare projects. Similar to the white revolution led by Amul, Assam's milk production must be significantly increased. To support this objective, our government will provide a subsidy of Rs 5 per liter of milk to dairy farmers," stated Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday.

"We have procured 116,000 units of sexed sorted semen using state funds to augment the female calf population and bolster dairy production," he added. Furthermore, the Chief Minister disclosed that under the Mukhyamantri Swa Niyojan Yojana, the state government will extend financial aid of Rs 2 lakh each to 200,000 young individuals in the state. "We have decided to prioritize animal husbandry, livestock, dairy production, and fisheries to enhance the state's economy. We will also focus on modernizing the veterinary sector and developing its infrastructure," emphasized the Assam Chief Minister.

During an event held in Guwahati, the Chief Minister flagged off 181 Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs), distributed sexed-sorted semen, and inaugurated the Regional Artificial Insemination Training (RAIT) Institute and Cold Storage. Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also highlighted that advances in science now allow us to determine the sex of newborn calves through artificial insemination.

The program was attended by Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, ALPCO Chairman Manoj Saikia, MP Queen Oja, and senior government officials.
