Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given a ticket to Aman Giri, son of late Party MLA Arvind Giri, from the Gola Gokarnanath seat in Lakhimpur Kheri. The seat fell vacant due to the death of Arvind Giri in the past. Vinay Tiwari, who had defeated Arvind Giri in the last election from this seat, has been given a chance for the second time by the Samajwadi Party (SP). Polling for the seat will be held on the 3rd of this month.  

53-year-old Vinay Tiwari was also a BJP candidate from this seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In that election too, he was defeated by BJP candidate Arvind Giri. In 2012, Vinay Tiwari of the SP won the 139 Gola Gokarnanath assembly seat, formed after delimitation, in the first election. Vinay had contested the election for the post of president of Nagar Palika Parishad in 2000 and his wife Rekha Tiwari in 2006, but he was defeated. In the assembly elections held this year, BJP's Arvind Giri once again defeated Vinay Tiwari by a margin of 29,294 votes.  

Arvind Giri, who was the BJP MLA from the Gola Gokarnanath seat, died of a heart attack on September 6. Arvind's family members were taking him to Lucknow when his health deteriorated. Meanwhile, he died of a heart attack on the way. Arvind Giri was survived by a son Aman and two daughters. Both daughters are married. One daughter is an officer in the army. Aman Giri is said to have stayed away from politics so far.
