New Delhi: The crucial moment arrives as the counting process for the legislative assemblies of four states—Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana—is scheduled to commence on Sunday amidst stringent security measures. This electoral showdown is being regarded as the semi-final before the anticipated mega final in 2024.

However, the counting of votes in Mizoram, which also participated in the polls alongside the aforementioned states last month, has been postponed to December 4, Monday, as announced by the Election Commission (EC) earlier.

Designated counting centers will initiate the counting process at 8 am on Sunday. The electoral exercise across these five states, spanning the north, east, and southern regions of the country, is expected to shape the political landscape leading up to the Lok Sabha elections next year.

The decision to reschedule the counting in the northeastern state of Mizoram was confirmed by the poll panel, citing representations from civil society in the state. This alteration was made considering the special significance Sunday holds for the Christian-majority population in Mizoram.

Votes will be tabulated for 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 90 seats in Chhattisgarh, 119 in Telangana, and 199 seats in Rajasthan. However, polling for one seat in Rajasthan was deferred due to the unfortunate demise of the Congress candidate.
