Mumbai: Last Sunday in Mumbai has not been a special day. In fact, a total of 31 people have died so far in accidents like wall and house collapse after heavy rains in Chembur, Vikhroli and Bhandup. On the other hand, the Met department has said that heavy rain is likely to occur in many parts of Mumbai today. IMD has issued a thundershower alert in Mumbai from the middle to heavy rain while heavy to very heavy rain has been sounded in Suburban and Konkan areas.

Due to rain in Mumbai, many places are full of water on the roads and the movement of trains on the Central Man Line and harbour line is going to be affected even today. On the other hand, NDRF and disaster management officials say rescue operations in Chembur and Vikhroli have ended and 31 people have died. Around 19 people have died in Chembur, while 10 people have died after being buried in the debris when their house collapsed in Vikhroli.

In addition, 1 death has been reported in Bhandup while 1 was also reported at Vashi Naka. IMD says Mumbai received more than 250 mm of rain in three hours which has reached 305 mm on Sunday morning. On the other hand, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official says that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai in the backdrop of heavy rains. At the same time, IMD said that the images from the Doppler radar show that the storm is at an altitude of 18 kilometres (about 60,000 feet).
