New Delhi: Today is the first death anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a former PM and veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Several top leaders of the country are paying tribute to him today. Several top leaders, including President Ram Nath Kovind, PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, arrived at his memorial site in the national capital New Delhi to pay tribute. Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away on August 16, 2018, after suffering from chronic illness.
A major event has been organized at his memorial site in Delhi to mark the death anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Several other family members, including Atal Bihari Vajpayee's daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya, granddaughter Niharika, are present there. The hymn program is being held at the memorial site of the former PM today where he is being paid homage.
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu also paid tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Twitter. After the death of former PM Vajpayee, the BJP had flown his bones into 100 rivers of the country and started with immersion in the Ganga at Haridwar. Known all over the world for his poems and speeches, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was one of the founders of the BJP.
