Violence during voting in Bengal, attack on Suvendu Adhikari's brother's car, driver injured

Kolkata: The car of Somendu Adhikari, brother of BJP's Suvendu Adhikari, was attacked on Saturday amidst voting for the first phase of Bengal elections. His driver sustained injuries and the car was also badly ransacked. Adhikari's brother did not suffer any injuries in the attack, but it is reported that two-three BJP workers have been beaten up. The incident is being reported from South Kanthi.

The driver told the media, "Some people attacked. We also suffered injuries." The driver also suffered injuries near the eye. He told that Somendu was inside the polling booth at the time of the attack. Somendu said, "I was in the polling booth at the time of the attack. I saw two or three of our workers been attacked. All are in the hospital where they are undergoing treatment.” After seeing Somendu's damaged car, it was apprehended that the vehicle would have been attacked with big stones.

Suvendu Adhikari and then his brother Somendu Adhikari had joined BJP. Suvendu was a former minister of Bengal and once a stalwart leader of TMC. The BJP has fielded him from Nandigram against Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee. After leaving TMC, he had said that his brother and Mamata's party leader Somendu Adhikari will join the BJP along with TMC workers.
