Kolkata: Two people suspected to be linked to the International Terrorist Organization Islamic State (IS) have been arrested in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. The Special Task Force (STF) of The Bengal Police has arrested both of them from Vidyasagar Setu connecting Kolkata to Howrah. The two suspects have been identified as Mohammad Saddam and Saeed Ahmed. Both have been accused of recruiting Muslims into the Islamic State terror group from the eastern slopes of Kolkata, collecting arms, ammunition, and explosives, and collecting funds for terrorist activities.

According to reports, the STF had been monitoring the activities of Saddam and Saeed for the past several days. Intelligence agencies had received inputs on them that they were involved in terrorist activities. The agencies had received information from informers that the duo had left for Khidirpur to attend a secret meeting. After this, the STF team caught Saddam and Saeed from Vidyasagar Setu while they were going on a motorcycle. After the arrest of both, the police also raided their house. Debit cards, several electronic devices, laptops, and evidence promoting jihad have been recovered from the house of the suspected terrorists. All these are being examined.

After the arrest, the two were produced in court, police said. A lower court in Kolkata has remanded him in STF custody till January 19. According to the report, one of the arrested accused was a mechanical engineering student at Alia University, while the other lived with him. Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo was poisoning the minds of Muslim youths to join the IS. They were also collecting money to expand their network. Both terrorists used to share provocative videos and posts on social media to incite Muslims to wage war against the country. Officials suspect that some youths have come to their point of view. The agencies suspect that they are behind a major Islamic terrorist organization operating from Pakistan or any other country.
