New Delhi: While the health crisis is looming large amid corona infection in India, a piece of disturbing news has also surfaced. In fact, it has been decided to close Hindustan Syringe and Medical Devices Limited (HMD), India's largest syringe and needle company. According to the report, Air Quality Management has called for the temporary suspension of 228 factories of the company to reduce pollution in the national capital.

This afternoon, we decided to stop production in our complex, Rajiv Nath, Managing Director, Hindustan Syringe and Medical Devices Limited (HMD) told the media. Nath said the company does not have buffer stock for more than two days. We cannot produce more syringes than buffer stock for two days from Monday, he added. Daily production of 1.2 crore syringes will not be available from Monday. This number includes 40 lakh syringes constructed at another plant, which HMD plans to close on Monday.

Nath, MD of the company, wrote to PM Modi saying that the supply of syringes in India and globally is already low. The crisis has worsened as we have been asked to close down units on a voluntary basis. This will affect the production of 1.50 lakh needles per day and 80 lakh syringes per day.
