Badminton Players withdraw from SaarLorLux Open due to visa issues

The Denmark Open 2020 has marked the beginning of the badminton game amid the Corona virus wave. The Indian players Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen showcased a good progress in the tournament. Young Lakshya Sen, the rising star reached Round Two and Srikanth reached Quarterfinals. The entire focus has shifted to SaarLorLux Open in Germany. In the men’s singles, 10 Indians including lakshya Sen are in the list. As per the sources, it is known that three players including Lakshya Sen training at an academy in Denmark, will be part of the BWF Super 100 event scheduled from October 27 to November 1.

The three list includes Lakshya Sen, Subhankar Dey and Ajay Jayaram all Denmark Open participants. Due to the complications with regards to visa 7 others have been forced to withdraw from the $90,000 event in Saarbrucken.  Mithun Manjunath, trains at Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) in Bengaluru, is among those who were forced to pull out. His father told due to visa issue the entries of five other players including Mithun has been revoked. Kiran George, Alap Mishra, Chirag Sen and Ira Sharma are the four others facing the issue.

PPBA offical felt worried as all five from their academy faced the visa issue. The shuttlers from PPBA have withdrawn from another meet in Portugal from November 5-8. The last day for withdrawal without penalty was October 5. That means the shuttlers might have to pay a fine as per BWF (world body) statutes. PPBA official said shuttlers were ready to make an appearance but the sitaution prevents them, so we will write to BWF requesting them to wave off the fine. Due to increased case in Europe, France and Germany have come up wioth new protocols. Players with VISA are facing difficulty in entry.
