The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, USA, collapsed after a collision with a large cargo ship flying the Singapore flag. The Maryland Transportation Authority confirmed the collapse on Tuesday, prompting the closure of interstate lanes in both directions. The incident occurred over the Patapsco River, turning the area into an "active scene" according to the MTA's statement on X. Initially, there were reports of an "incident" leading to lane closures, with traffic diverted accordingly.

Baltimore Police Department spokesperson informed NBC News that there were potentially people in the river following the collapse. Detective Niki Fennoy stated that the police were notified of a partial bridge collapse around 1:35 a.m., with workers possibly in the water.

According to MarineTraffic, a website monitoring ship movements, a Singapore-flagged container vessel named the Dali was stationary under the bridge at the time of the incident.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski Jr. confirmed the incident and mentioned ongoing rescue operations. Olszewski requested thoughts and prayers for those affected.
