Bangladesh extends lockdown to curb COVID-19 spread

Dhaka: Bangladesh to extend its ongoing lockdown for another week to contain the spread of coronavirus. The decision to extend lockdown was proposed on Monday.

The State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said “The decision was taken in line with suggestions by public health experts and considering the global COVID-19 situation.” Amid the coronavirus spike in nation shops and malls will remain open from 10 am to 8 pm, the Dhaka Tribune reported, quoting public official Hossain. Officials from different ministries including health, home, foreign, public administration, and civil aviation were present at the inter-ministerial to discuss the COVID-19 situation. Bangladesh has also decided to close its border with India for the next 14 days.

The country has registered a total of 748,628 COVID-19 cases with 3,306 people tested positive for coronavirus and 97 deaths in the last 24 hours. India on April 27 reported 3,23,144 people testing positive for the coronavirus. India’s infection tally has climbed to 1,76,36,307, while the national recovery rate further dropped to 82.54 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. The death toll mounted to 1,97,894 with 2,771 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.
