Dhaka: Police have now arrested an accused who incited communal violence against Hindus at the Durga puja site in Bangladesh. According to the information received, he is accused of keeping the Quran in Durga Puja Pandal. Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today confirmed the arrest.

Let me tell you all that the police have arrested Iqbal Hussain, a man from Cox's Bazar, on suspicion of placing the Quran in a temporary puja mandap on the banks of Nanua Dighi in Comilla. Police say they had identified the accused after viewing CCTV footage. Amidst all this, Bangladesh Minister of State for Religion Mohammad Faridul Haque Khan said, "Those who set fire to the houses of the Hindu community in Ramnathpur town of Peerganj in Rangpur should be given such punishment which becomes an example.''

He further said, "Those who want to derail the government's development agenda and commit violence to destroy the atmosphere of communal harmony in the country will be dealt with strictly.'' Well, you must be aware that in a few days of communal violence in Muslim-dominated Bangladesh, at least six people were killed and dozens of houses destroyed. So far, 71 cases have been registered on charges of violence while 450 people have been arrested.
