Ahmedabad: A local court in Ahmedabad has granted bail to former Congress President and MP Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in a bank defamation case. The court granted bail to Rahul Gandhi on a bond of 15,000. Earlier, the Congress leader reached the court room on the sixth floor. Rahul's statement will be recorded shortly. The case in which Rahul has been granted bail is a defamation case relating to the bank and its chairman.

The Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank and its chairman had filed a petition against Rahul Gandhi. The court had ordered rahul Gandhi to appear before the court in connection with a statement made by Rahul Gandhi during demonetization. Earlier, Gandhi appeared in a court in Mumbai last week in a defamation case in connection with the murder of journalist and writer Gauri Lankesh. He blamed the "Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideology for killing the journalist.

Rahul made a comment on PM Modi. Rahul had said that "why all thieves" are called Modi, on which a petition was filed by Bihar Deputy CM and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi. On July 6, Rahul appeared in Patna's Adalat. According to Congress leaders, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has been booked in 20 cases by RSS and BJP workers in various courts across the country.
