New Delhi: Rohit Sharma will be the new captain of the Indian cricket team for T20 and ODI. Rohit's name is set to be finalised in the selection committee meeting soon. Sports website Inside Sports quoted sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as saying. However, sources have also said that Virat Kohli will continue to be the captain of the Test team.
According to the report, the BCCI officer has denied making different captains for all three formats. Virat has already decided to quit the T20 captaincy after the World Cup. He had sent his resignation to BCCI saying the workload. Kohli had announced on social media that he has been playing for India in all three formats for many years and has been captaining all three formats for the past few years. The workload on him is quite high. In such a situation, he is quitting the T20 captaincy to focus on ODI and Test captaincy and will continue to play T20 cricket as a batsman.
New Zealand will tour India after the T20 World Cup. The New Zealand team is scheduled to play a series of three T20is and 2 Tests. The first T20 match is scheduled to be played in Jaipur on November 17. The second T20 match will be played in Ranchi on November 19 and the third T20 match in Kolkata on November 21. This will be followed by the first Test at Kanpur from November 25-29 and the second Test between December 3-7.
