New Delhi: BCCI decided to stop the Indian Premier League (IPL) midway season for the first time in 14 years. The Board of India had to hold the IPL 2021 season midway after cases of infection also surfaced in the bio-safe bubble of the tournament being played amid the corona epidemic. By the time the tournament was stopped, 29 out of 60 matches had been played. That is, about half a season had been played. In such a case, if BCCI fails to complete the tournament this year, will lose more than half of his total earnings.

BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly has predicted that earnings worth about 2,500 crore rupees will go out of the hands of BCCI. IPL, has been the biggest source of earnings for the Indian board since the league's debut in 2008. The board earns thousands of crores of rupees every year. Last year, the tournament had to be held in the United Arab Emirates due to the corona epidemic. The withdrawal of title sponsor Vivo at that time had caused some loss to the BCCI. Yet the board earned about Rs 4,000 crore that season. Now with Vivo coming back this year and many other sponsors joining, earnings were expected to increase.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly spoke on the issue for the first time since the league's suspension. Talking about the financial aspect of the league's suspension, Ganguly said the board could lose earnings of up to 2,500 crore rupees.
