New Delhi: Just a few hours after the news spread that Virat Kohli was quitting the captaincy of the ODI and T20 teams after the T20 World Cup, the BCCI himself has come forward and rejected the news. BCCI has denied a report claiming that Rohit Sharma will be given the captaincy of the ODI and T20 team after the T20 World Cup in place of Virat. Board treasurer Arun Dhumal on Monday termed the report as baseless and said Indian captain Virat Kohli will remain captain. He said the news of quitting the captaincy is totally wrong. Nothing like this is going to happen in Indian cricket.

Talking to the media, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said, "These are all media-made things. The Board has neither discussed nor thought about the Split Captaincy. The truth is that Virat Kohli will continue to be the captain in all formats.' However, earlier reports said that Virat Kohli was about to give up the captaincy of the shorter format of cricket after the T20 World Cup. There was talk of Rohit Sharma being made captain in his place.

Media reports quoted BCCI sources as saying, 'Virat Kohli himself will decide to quit the captaincy after the T20 World Cup. He will take this decision to focus on his batting.' Sources said Virat, who is currently the captain of Team India in all formats, has decided to share the responsibility of his leadership with Rohit. Quoting sources, the report also said that a meeting of top officials of the BCCI has also been held in that regard. However, now BCCI has denied all these reports.
