Bengal Bans on "The Kerala Story": BJP considering judicial action

KOLKATA: The West Bengal BJP is expected to appeal the order in the Calcutta High Court after unleashing a harsh attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for prohibiting the exhibition of the movie "The Kerala Story" in the state.

The party member on the state committee said, the fundamental issue is why it was banned in Bengal when it was being shown in Kerala. In response to their advice, he said, "We will be consulting the legal brains and we might move the court against the decision to ban on specific grounds."

The state spokesman for the BJP in West Bengal stated that the film's prohibition in the state is a prime example of the state government caving in to religious radicals.

The chief minister inadvertently offended the regular folk from the minority population, who are also opposed to such fanaticism. This choice ushers in a new era for black people in West Bengal," he declared.

Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, asserts that by outlawing "The Kerala Story," which criticises IS and its tactics, the chief minister has unintentionally expressed sympathy for the organisation. Why would the screening of this movie cause law and order to be disturbed in West Bengal? The decision to forbid the film should be reversed right away. If the chief minister is unable to keep the peace, she should quit, Adhikari said.

The chief minister said that some parts of the movie could disrupt peace and unity in the state when announcing the ban on Monday. "Hence, we've decided to outlaw its screening throughout the state. The decision was made in order to preserve unity and tranquility, the chief minister told the press.

While declaring the ban, she also took a dig at the Left government in Kerala for not taking a similar step "I oppose the CPI(M). I want to talk about individuals. CPI(M) and BJP have an unspoken agreement. The Kerala government should have taken a similar action rather than just denouncing the movie, Banerjee said.
