JERUSALEM – Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and US President Joe Biden spoke on the phone about Iran's nuclear programme and other international issues, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's office.

The two presidents met on Sunday to discuss "regional challenges," including "increasing Iranian aggressiveness" and "measures to halt Iran's nuclear programme," according to the statement. Bennett praised Biden for assassinating IS chief Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, saying that "the world is now a safer place."

According to the statement, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu invited US President Barack Obama and his wife to visit Israel, and the two leaders promised to be in "frequent touch."

The phone call took place as international talks in Vienna on resurrecting the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, between world powers and Iran enter the last stretch.

"We are responsible for dealing with the Iranian nuclear programme and, of course, we are monitoring the Vienna discussions," Bennett told his weekly cabinet meeting earlier on Sunday.
