Navi Mumbai: The Pentecostal Bethel Gospel church in Seawood, where a pastor was detained on suspicion of child abuse, was demolished by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation on Friday, December 2. (NMMC).

The church was demolished by bulldozers on the recommendation of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The NCPCR intervened after receiving multiple complaints of sexual abuse in the church.
Announcing the action against the illegal church on Twitter, NCPCR Chairman Priyank Kanoongo wrote, "45 children have been rescued from the illegal children's home run by Bethel Gospel Church in Navi Mumbai which was demolished by bulldozers based on the recommendations made by @NCPCR_ after complaints of child sex abuse. I appreciate it, @Dev Fadnavis ji.

Three children living in the children's home reported Pastor Rajkumar Yesudasan for alleged sexual assault, and the NCPCR took cognizance of the case. A minor girl was also compelled to have an abortion, according to information given to the NCPCR.

The District Child Protection Officer Thane famously raided the chapel in August and rescued 45 kids. The saved kids were relocated to various Thane shelters, and the preacher, 55, was taken into custody by the NRI Coastal Police.
On October 8, NCPCR Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo and another official visited the children's home in response to unresolved complaints to the state government. The investigating officer, the district child protection officer, and a shelter resident were all met by the team during the visit.

The NCPCR team learned during its inquiry that a guy named Vinod, who had travelled from Rajasthan, Odisha, and other states, had brought the minor children residing at the church-run shelter home to the Navi Mumbai church.
It is important to highlight that concerns regarding the church's legality were expressed after the alleged crime was made public. The police had asked the NMMC to take the proper action if it was determined that the church was unlicensed.

Chitra Wagh, the state president of the BJP's Mahila Morcha, met with Rajesh Narvekar, the municipal commissioner, and asked that the church be demolished on the grounds that she had knowledge that it was unlawful.
