New Delhi: Sunil Mittal, chairman of the country's leading telecom company Bharti Airtel, has demanded the government to reduce tax. Mittal has said that the telecom sector should not be considered as a means to fill the government treasury. This is not the first time Sunil Mittal has spoken on the problems of the telecom sector. Even before this, he has expressed concern about tax burden and charges on this sector many times.
It is noteworthy that telecom companies are struggling with the payment of adjusted gross revenue (AGR). This is the arrear of many years, which the government is demanding from the telecom companies. Its biggest burden has been on Vodafone-Idea and Airtel. According to news agency PTI, Sunil Mittal said, "Taxes have generally been very high on this industry. It is important that it is reviewed thoroughly and the fee on telecom resources like spectrum should not be a means to replenish the treasury, but rather it should be seen as a factor to increase financial activity manifold. ''
He further said that in such a situation, the government will make up for the shortfall by other industries that are moving forward with the help of this industry. It needs attention.
