Bhopal: The mortal remains of Air Force Group Captain Varun Singh, who was martyred in a helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu, reached Bhopal from Bengaluru by an Air Force aircraft last Thursday. He is now scheduled to be cremated at Vishram Ghat in Bairagarh with full state and military honors today. According to the information received, his mortal remains were given 'Guard of Honor on arrival at State Hangar Bhopal. Later, army and paramilitary officials including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, State Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang, and Bhopal's Huzur seat MLA Rameshwar Sharma, Collector Avinash Lavanya, Additional Commissioner of Police Irshad Wali paid floral tributes on his mortal remains at the state hangar.

The mortal remains of Group Captain Singh in an army vehicle equipped with flowers were taken from the State Hangar to his residence Inner Court, Sun City near the airport, where his family members performed special religious rituals. People were taking Tricolor all the way and shouting slogans of Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also attended the meeting. He said, "The bravery of the Group Captain can never be forgotten by the country. He will always live in the memory of the state and the countrymen. He also said that Varun Singh was the true son of Mother India. The country and Bhopal are proud of them. They overcame death several times. They created new stories of bravery to protect the borders of the country.

Further, CM said, 'He is not among us today. On behalf of the people of the state, I pay homage to martyred Group Captain Varun Singh. In order to keep his memories intact, the State Government will conduct activities in consultation with his family which will continue to inspire patriotism to future generations. He announced that his family would be given an honorary fund of One crore rupees. In addition, it is also proposed to give a place in government service to the family member. According to the information received, the last rites of Group Captain Singh will be performed at Vishram Ghat in Bairagarh with the Guard of honor at 11 noon today.
