Shah Alam's quitting the party is said to be a big blow to the BSP.

He wrote a letter to BSP supremo Mayawati telling her that he was resigning with a heavy heart. He said in the letter that the talks that took place in the past suggest that you do not trust me, in which case I am resigning from all party posts. Assembly elections are going to be held in Uttar Pradesh in the coming months. Even before that, the leaders have started changing their party.

After Shah Alam's resignation, it is believed that he may take over the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) after leaving the BSP. However, Shah Alam has not yet revealed anything about his further plan. But his resignation is nothing short of a setback for the BSP.
