New Delhi: Railways will provide 15 percent cumulative reservation to Agniveers in non-gazetted posts in direct recruitment under all its departments and will also give them relaxation in age and exemption from fitness test. The reservation policy for Agniveers in Railway Protection Force (RPF) is also under consideration. According to sources, the Railways' reservation - 10 per cent in Level 1 and five per cent in Level 2 and above non-gazetted posts - will be horizontal in the case of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), Ex-Servicemen and Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAAs). Agniveers will be given relaxation in physical efficiency test and age. Five years for the first batch of Agniveers and three for Level-1, Level-2 and above posts for subsequent batches, there will be age relaxation over and above the existing age limit fixed for different communities. Sources said that the Railway Board has issued a letter to all General Managers asking Railway Recruitment Agencies (Railway Recruitment Board/Railway Recruitment Cell) to provide these relaxations/facilities in open market recruitment in Pay Level-1 and Pay Level-2 . Under the Agneepath recruitment scheme started by the Center last year, after completion of 4 years, 25 percent recruitment will be done in the forces. Horizontal reservation refers to equal opportunities provided through vertical categories to certain categories of beneficiaries such as women, seniors, transgenders and persons with disabilities. Several Central Ministries, State Governments and industry bodies are providing suitable career options to ex-firefighters through similar job reservation schemes. Agniveers who have successfully completed the service period may apply with documentary proof against Centralized Employment Notification issued by Railway Recruitment Agencies for recruitment of staff from open market against non-gazetted pay grade.

The board's letter to general managers states that unfilled vacancies will not be carried forward, meaning in case of shortfall, the vacancies will be filled from others in the combined merit list. It is also stated that Agniveers who have completed their full tenure of 4 years will have to pay a fee of only Rs.250/- only for applying for recruitment in the open market conducted by Railway Recruitment Agencies which will actually appear in the written test. There is a provision to return those present. Level 1 posts exam is conducted for the selection of Assistants in all branches of Railways. Other categories in Level 2 and above posts include Junior Clerk-cum-Typist, Accounts Clerk-cum-Typist, Station Manager, Junior Engineer.
