Ranchi: A big news is coming out from Jharkhand in which it is being reported that Arup Chatterjee, the owner of a regional Hindi news channel (News11) in Jharkhand, was arrested on Saturday night for demanding money from a businessman. Dhanbad police said, Chatterjee, has been arrested on charges of extortion, blackmailing and criminal conspiracy.  

An FIR was registered against Arup Chatterjee on June 27 under sections 193, 386, 387, 418, 420, 468, 469, 500, 503 and 120B at Govindpur police station in Dhanbad. Businessman Rakesh Kumar had alleged that Chatterjee had manipulated false news against him and demanded Rs 11 lakh through his correspondent.  

He also alleged that he was threatened with dire consequences if he did not pay the money. According to the FIR lodged, the complainant further said that he paid Rs 6 lakh but the threatening calls never stopped and demanded more ransom. SSP Dhanbad said, "Arup Chatterjee has been arrested on charges of extortion, blackmailing and criminal conspiracy." Further investigations are currently underway in the case by the police.
