New Delhi: Jitendra Narayan Singh Tyagi (formerly named Waseem Rizvi) has been granted interim bail by the apex court in the Ridwar inflammatory speech case. Waseem Rizvi changed his name to Jitendra Narayan Singh Tyagi after he renounced Islam and converted to Hinduism. He has been the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Shia Wakf Board. He was arrested for making a provocative speech at the Haridwar Dharma Sansad.

It may be mentioned that the Dharma Sansad was held in Haridwar from December 17 to 20. Jitendra Narayan Tyagi, Mahant Yati Narsinghanand of Ghaziabad Dasna Temple, Sadhvi Annapurna and Mahendra Dass were among the saints. The video of this started going viral on social media, in which there was talk of taking up arms to protect ourselves from the particular community. Jitendra Narayan and Yati Narsinghanand were later arrested.

Jitender Narayan Tyagi was arrested on January 13 and was lodged in Haridwar jail after that. Rizvi's lawyer had sought bail for treatment of heart disease. The Supreme Court, while granting bail, said that he will not make any provocative speeches. Advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Tyagi, said he has been in jail for six months and is suffering from several ailments.
