New Delhi: South Africa's AB de Villiers and Windies' stormy batsman Chris Gayle, popularly known as Universal Boss, have become the first two players to be inducted into the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Hall of Fame. The franchise confirmed the news on Tuesday (17 May). The special thing is that RCB is also the first franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to launch the Hall of Fame.

 

RCB has posted a video on Twitter, where de Villiers and Chris Gayle interacted with the team through video conferencing. The video begins with RCB players applauding for both the legend cricketers. In the video, RCB Director of Cricket Mike Hesson and former captain Virat Kohli are also seen talking on the occasion. Both Gayle and de Villiers started playing for RCB in 2011 and have been with the franchise for a long time. Gayle had parted ways with RCB after the 2017 season when the franchise decided to release him. On the other hand, de Villiers had announced his retirement from cricket after the end of last season.

De Villiers said on this occasion that, 'To be honest, I am very emotional. as you know. I am a bit out of cricket. Just watching you guys on TV gets me excited about the things that are going on in the season. I am sure it is going to be very special. Thanks to Virat and everyone associated with the franchise. At the same time, Gayle said, 'I want to thank the RCB franchise. This team has been really special to me as well. It is great to join a special club. I will always keep RCB close to my heart. I have shared special memories with some special players and coaches.

Let us inform that de Villiers played a total of 157 matches for RCB, in which he has scored 4522 runs with the help of 2 centuries and 37 half-centuries. At the same time, Chris Gayle, who is called one of the most explosive batsmen of T20 cricket, has scored 3420 runs in 91 matches for RCB, which includes 5 centuries and 21 half-centuries.
