Muzaffarnagar: So far 48 people have been arrested in connection with the Muzaffarnagar uproar, while a total of 32 people were arrested in the Police Civil Lines police station till late evening. These include 20 people from Muzaffarnagar district and 12 accused from non-district. One of them is also from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and Kargil of Leh-Ladakh. Apart from this, the Kotwali police has also arrested 16 people so far. Outsiders arrested include people from Bhopal, Sultanpur, Leh Ladakh, Kargil, Saharanpur, Meerut and Shamli. Most of them are students of madrasas and were staying in Shadat hostels. The police claim that they have been caught by chance.

According to information received from the sources, SO Civil Lines timekeeper Atri told that 12 accused who have been arrested from non-district, they were arrested from different places at different times during the ruckus. At the time of arrest, pieces of brick, stones or poles were also recovered in the hands of all the above. All the non-district accused are between 18 and 22 years of age, who were living in some madrasa in the district itself and had come to participate in the protest. All these accused have been sent to jail along with others.

Let us tell you that the details of all the students who come from outside in the district to study in madrasas or other educational institutions are updated from time to time through LIU. All have also been investigated. A different kind of religion-based appeal was made for the CAA to join the ruckus on Friday, in which the students from the Sadat hostel on Aryasamaj Road in the city also got involved in the protest. The 12 hostel students who have been sent to jail have found a role in the nuisance. Earlier, around 40 students were detained at Sadat Hostel, 28 of which were released after being found innocent by investigation.
